Functions
Greenwood County Recycling is responsible for operating a voluntary curb-side residential recycling collection program that currently serves approximately 19,000 homes per week. The county provides one recycling container to each resident that is located within the cities of Greenwood, Ninety Six, Ware Shoals and other designated areas in the county. The division also operates a recycling separation and processing center where recycled waste streams are separated by type and prepared for sale to the recycling industry.
Responsibilities
- Accepts recyclable materials from citizens and businesses within Greenwood County
- Provides containers and recycling information to residents within the collection areas
- Provides collection of recyclables for public schools and local government offices
- Provides educational services to the community through tours and presentations to school and civic groups
- Promotes recycling through participation in Earth Day, Wellness Celebration, YMCA Kid’s Day & Lander University Earth Day
- Provides recycling containers for household recyclables at each of the County’s nine convenience centers
This Office Does Not:
- Pay anyone for recyclables delivered to the Convenience Centers or Recycling Center
- Provide containers for households located outside the collection areas.
- Accept any recyclables that are not included in the approved list.
