GREENWOOD COUNTY COUNCIL is currently taking applications for an

AT-LARGE APPOINTMENT TO THE GREENWOOD COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Library Board is created by law to act as the citizen control or governing body of the library. Legal responsibility is vested in the Library Board which is the policy – making body of the organization. The Board’s responsibilities include employing a competent library director, cooperating with the director in formulating all library policies and regulations, public relations, promotion of library interests, procurement of funds adequate for a progressive library program, control of library funds and equipment, cooperation with other public agencies, and general management and control of the library as a whole. The Board consists of nine (9) members, residents of the County of Greenwood, South Carolina, appointed for four (4) years by the Greenwood County Council.

Interested applicants may submit a completed application to klukie@greenwoodsc.gov or in person at 600 Monument Street, Park Plaza, Room 102, Greenwood. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014

Authority: The Greenwood county Library was created by Ordinance #6-79, which was approved by the Greenwood County Council on April 17, 1979.  The Board of Trustees derives it's authority from said ordinance and is invested with the powers enumerated therein.
Membership: The Board shall constist of nine (9) members, residents of the County of Greenwood, South Carolina, appointed for four (4) years by the Greenwood County Council.  Trustees will serve on the Board until such time as successors are appointed, are no longer residents of Greenwood County, or otherwise fail to meet requirements stated elsewhere in the Bylaws.

Meeting Schedule: Regular meetings of the Board shall be held four (4) times per year.  The time and location of the meetings will be determined annually by the Board at it's annual meeting.   Members of the Board will be notified at least two (2) weeks prior to a regularly scheduled meeting if the location or time of the meeting needs to be changed.
